ILU is primarily about interfaces between units of program structure; we call these units modules. The notion is that each module enscapsulates some logical part of a program, that has high `cohesiveness' internally, and low `coupling' to other parts of the program. ILU provides you with a way of writing down an object-oriented interface to the module; that is, a set of object types and other types, constants, and exceptions that another module would use to communicate with it.
